Quilts tell stories. The patterns and fabrics can reveal a quilter's skill, economic status, relationships, political affiliations, or aspirations. Take, for example, the quilt on the cover: created in the years spanning the American civil war, it contains signatures from prominent authors, scientists, painters, clergymen, educators, and eight US presidents. To the young quilter who created it, Abraham Lincoln signed his scrap of silk, "Yr. Friend & Servant Abraham Lincoln 1860." The twelve quilts in this calendar represent a tradition that elevates utilitarian products to precious works of art. Printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper.
